Sustainability at Ghost Poppy
Sustainability can be defined as “a system which survives without compromising future generations”. Sustainability includes: aspects of the environment, public health and safety, social justice, and equality. As a small family owned company we do everything we can to make sure our products are as sustainable as possible.
All of our products are vegan, meaning containing no animal products. We also make sure all of our sourced ingredients are not tested on animals and do not contain animal products.
The base ingredients in our room sprays contain wildcrafted ingredients. Wildcrafting is the practice of harvesting plants from their natural, or 'wild' habitat. Ethical considerations are often involved, such as protecting endangered species, potential for depletion of resources, and in the context of private property, preventing theft of valuable plants. Care is taken to remove only a few plants, flowers, or branches, so plenty remains to continue the supply.
All of our bases and fragrance oils are phthalate, paraben, and sulfate free.
We reuse all shipping boxes that are sent to us as long as they are still in good condition. Reusing these boxes to send orders to customers keeps costs low for us and our customers. This reuse process also helps to keep waste low by keeping boxes in circulation longer eliminating the need to use a new box for every order.
Biodegradable Packing Materials
Our packing peanuts are made with corn and dissolve when they come in contact with water. Simply throw our packing peanuts in the sink, run the water and watch them dissolve! Keeping Styrofoam and plastic out of circulation is very important to us.
We prioritize vendors that source crystals and stones from mines within the United States. Although the U.S. doesn’t produce as wide an array of stones, the Fair Labor Standards Act makes forced or child labor illegal. We make sure to ask all of our stone vendors "Do you ethically source your crystals? Do you know which mines they come from or who owns the mines? Do you know if the miners and polishers are treated fairly, paid fairly, and provided PPE?” we only work with vendors who can answer these questions.
Our bases in our Room Spray are certified organic. They are free of pesticides, dyes, chemical fertilizers, and other synthetic additives.
We use 100% domestically-grown soy wax, which is non-petroleum product made from a renewable crop (soybeans). Our candles burn cleanly and slowly, with very little soot.
The wicks are lead and zinc free and made with cotton.
Glass BottlesOur jars are glass so they’re reusable and recyclable. We offer a Local jar/bottle return program in Chico, CA. to help keep our materials in circulation longer and help to eliminate excess waste.
Wax Melt Containers
Our clamshells are made with up to 15% post-consumer recycled plastic and tight sealing action to keep wax fresh and are100% recyclable after use.
Our room sprays are preservative free, only containing water, organic witch hazel, and fragrance oil.
We now offer refill bottles for our Room Sprays. Keeping unrecyclable plastic spray nozzles out of the trash and keeping usable materials in circulation.
Local Recycle Program
Our jar/bottle recycling program is available for Chico residents. Empty used Ghost Poppy jars are cleaned, sanitized and reused for future products. Keeping usable jars in circulation and cutting costs for us and our customers.
