How to Apply an Iron-On Patch
Iron-on patches are one of the easiest ways to customize your clothes, bags, or hats. With just a few simple steps, you can give new life to your favorite pieces.
Start by heating your iron to a high setting with no steam. While it heats up, place your patch exactly where you want it on your garment, adhesive side down. Make sure your fabric is smooth and wrinkle-free for the best results.
Next, cover the patch with a thin cloth or a piece of parchment paper. This protects both the patch and your fabric from direct heat. Press the iron firmly on top of the patch for about 20–30 seconds, keeping it still so the heat distributes evenly.
For a stronger hold, flip your garment inside out and press the back of the patch for another 15–20 seconds. Then let everything cool completely; this helps the adhesive fully set.
And that’s it! Your patch should be securely attached and ready to wear.
Pro tip: If your item will go through frequent washing or heavy wear, stitching around the edges will help keep your patch in place for the long haul.
